DMT's Volvo news media site ranked best in Canada
WINNIPEG (December 16, 2008) – A website created by DMT Development Systems
Group Inc. for Volvo Cars of Canada Corp. to help news media covering the auto
industry has been ranked highest in a survey of Canadian automobile writers.
The survey, by the U.S.-based Motor Press Guild, covered 200 Canadian reporters,
editors and producers who cover the industry in Canada and ranked the public
relations organizations of carmakers in this country. MPG also surveys U.S.
automobile media.
The website – www.media.volvocars.com/ca
-- handily claimed the top spot in a ranking of on-line press rooms in 2008,
the association said. Volvo Canada is a pioneer in the use of websites tailored
to the unique needs of media covering the auto industry going back to the
company’s first site in 2001. That site, and the companion site created for
Irvine, California-based Volvo Cars of North America, were created by DMT and
have been steadily enhanced in the years since.
“Volvo was quick to recognize the power of the web in delivering timely
information to news media and have steadily worked to keep its media sites at
the leading edge of a very fast-changing industry,” says DMT president Glen
Demetrioff. “Volvo is open to innovation and have been terrific partners in the
development of a tool that benefits the companies, the users and, I think,
consumers.”
The pioneering work by DMT with Volvo in North America led to a global mandate
from Volvo Car Corp. of Sweden to help create advanced media information sites
for other Volvo operations in markets like the U.K., Italy and Germany. Last
year, DMT signed a contract with the Volvo Car Corporation’s head office in
Göteborg, Sweden, that will see the DMT system offered to Volvo companies
around the world. The sites not only contain all of the usual news, photos,
product information and background journalists covering the auto industry need,
it links Volvo in each country with its global parent in Sweden in what may be
the first world-wide network designed exclusively for media access.
The Los Angeles-based Motor Press Guild (MPG) is a non-profit professional
association dedicated to promoting education and information exchange within
the motoring press. Members include staff and freelance journalists,
photographers, broadcasters and similar media professionals, as well as public
relations representatives from vehicle manufacturers, industry suppliers,
aftermarket companies, consumer groups, governmental bodies and other
motoring-related firms and organizations.
A privately held company, DMT has posted double digit growth since its inception
and employs more than 60 people at its headquarters on the campus of the
University of Manitoba. Additional customer service personnel work directly
with the clients in their locations.
